An eternally flowing river, it carries the souls of the dead back into the cycle so that they might be born again.

Shinji awakens beside flowing waters. It is unclear where they come from, but as his senses awaken and he focuses, the sound of it is unmistakeable. His eyes have something placed over them, obscuring his vision, and stopping them from opening.

These objects are round and flat, slightly heavy and cold overtop his eyes.

He now holds two pewter medallions in his hands. His eyes can open, and they can see around him. His surroundings are very dark. Not bleak, per se, but definitely not cheerful or happy. There is an air of solemnity here.

For very long moments, there is no answer. He almost thinks none will be forthcoming. Until a feminine voice sounded behind him. "You are very young, aren't you?"

A woman with fiery red hair that fell in waves to her waist is standing there in little clothing. Her hands are clearly taloned. Her face is human, but has very sharp features. Her wings are folded back, but they are a smoky grey. Her eyes are the same smoky grey. Her face is beautiful and exotic. Nearly animalistic in some ways.

Her body is a woman's body, but is scaled in glittering black and grey in areas. The scales don't cover much. "I am one Sister of three. Who are you, young one?"

She cocked her head in a birdlike fashion, focusing on him with a sharp grey eye. "You've found yourself in the Underworld, little one. It's not often one gets lost down here. Or comes without knowing." She is watching him, shifting closer. She studies the way he moves, nearly everything about him. "I have no call for your name, young Shinji. Be thankful. Now, you have just made me curious."

The grey eyed woman stepped closer, head tilting. "You are something to breed curiosity, young mage. The skein is strange on you. It is not severed, but nor is it intact. You are dead. And not." She stepped forward, a small hand laid upon his chest, as if testing exactly how alive he felt.

"Your heart does not beat further. You breathe to speak, only. You are dead and not. I am unnameable, but I will be your escort. We should cross the river very soon. When Charon returns." She told him, head bobbing in the avian way.

As though called by the mention of the name, the waters of the river Styx began to bubble and roil as something rose towards the surface. A deeply hooded head broke the surface first, the rest of the body coming swiftly after it as though being raised on some kind of platform. But beneath the incredibly tall and slender man's feet was only the now perfectly still waters of the river.

Craning over the two, this figure was cloaked in a dark material that seemed the same color as deep grave soil. Tattered and frayed over time, the cloak's edges danced in absent wind and scented the air with the smell of salt and decay. Rusted chains wrapped around his chest and arms, the ends of which descended back into the depths of the water. What little of his face shown under the hood - hollowed cheeks, a stern jaw, and marks akin to water-rot on wood blemishing his skin. His lips were **** and pale. When he opened his mouth to speak, the jagged teeth hidden behind those lips portrayed the seeming of both an elderly man and a wild man one would do best to keep their distance from.

He looked immediately towards the woman and then to the boy, then back to the woman.

"What brings you here to me, Erinyes? You and your sisters have not personally delivered one of your vanquished to me in a very long time."

Head turning sharply to Charon, her wings adjusted themselves, settling. She stepped closer to the solemn ferryman. "He is not mine. He found himself here. It interests me enough that I will be his escort through the gates. I have not had someone to claim in sometime. I want to hear those screams." She told the waterman.

Grey eyes cast to the teenager. "Come, odd mageling. You have your payment there in your hand. Let us not dawdle."

Charon extended his emaciated hand towards the boy, palm facing upward.
