He gazed at her, one of his hands lifting to place a gentle index finger under her chin. "Never lower your eyes that way, little angel. Not for me. You never have to." He said, once her eyes were back on his. He folded his arms across his chest, preparing to answer her questions.

"Yes. You do know me. I'm sorry that so much has happened that it's crowded out other memories, but I imagine yours of the orphanage were not pleasant. So, if they remain cloudy and you're happier, it's not so bad." He shrugged his shoulders. He opened his hands, as if offering something to her.

"I was there with you. I tried to protect you, when I could. You likely don't remember, or never realized that I stood as a guardian for you as often as I could, but I didn't want to intrude on you. So I didn't speak much or often." His eyes were serious, and focused on her face. It's a little intense, that look. It's flattering, as well, to have someone so intent upon your expression and words.

Mika's eyes widened slightly.  His touch was so light, and he kept calling her little angel.  It was still so soothing.  She could see him now.  He had never spoken to her much, but he was one of the few, if not the only one she could remember who never had said cruel things to her.  He had never beaten her up like the others, and he hadn't recoiled at the sight of her.  She shook her head lightly and stared deeply into his eyes again, as if that was the source of all her memories.  "You were nice to me." she said quietly, "You didn't run away when the freak came into the room like the others did."  She placed her hand lightly over her mouth, "You were the one that came in to bring me food on the bad days I had when they wouldn't let me out of the room, thinking I'd hurt the normal children."  A few tears had formed in the corners of her eyes.  "I can't believe I forgot." She sighed lightly, "I guess that's what happens when your father comes back into your life telling you you're a monster, and tries to destroy anything you have left of what you've come to know as yourself."  She said this sadly, not fully understanding how it was so easy to share with him.  A confused look crossed her face slightly, "How did you end up here?" she asked.

His lips twisted into a bitter snarl. "Those little monsters tormented an innocent girl because she was different. I think they're the last ones whose judgement is secure." He spat. "Their cruelty is something I will never be able to forget."

His tone softened, and his face smoothed out, coming back to a sweeter visage while he looked at her. "Of course I protected you. And I would have never dreamed of fearing you. You were far too sweet, too gentle. Even despite what they did to you.

You were like this little angel, wings a little dirty from whatever hell you'd dragged yourself out of, trying to stand against thrown stones and kicking feet. I couldn't let them try and destroy that light or let them remove the wings that would take you above them. You deserved better."
He realized exactly how poetic and sappy he'd gotten and shook his  head.

"My poetics pale, however. You were worth it, little one. I...hope you never doubt that. As for how I got here? I got sick. I died here." He said simply.

Mika listened to Hunter, soaking in every word he breathed.  A few tears ran down her cheeks as he talked about her.  She had never known someone at the orphanage had ever looked at her in such a light.  Back then she had thought she was a dark shadow, nothing worth looking at.  She never had thought anyone would have seen light in her darkness.  She smiled softly at Hunter, "They way you described me, it was beautiful." she breathed.  "I still have a hard time looking at myself and seeing light, rather than darkness.  I'm truly glad someone sees me like that."

As his explanation for how he had gotten there hit her, she found his eyes again.  She knew her own were showing sorrow.  She had known when she met him here again, that he wasn't alive, but that didn't make it any less cruel.  Hunter didn't deserve to be dead, he was too kind, too caring.  She whispered softly, "It's not fair."

He lifted a hand to tuck a lock of her hair away from her face, smiling slightly. "The brightest lights shine for others, little angel. You don't see your light, but someone should be reminding you that it's there, always. You shine so beautifully in the dark." His hand dropped back to his side, his fingers rubbing over one another as if the feel of her hair still lingered, and he wanted to keep it. "You are, and will ever be beautiful to someone who truly sees you."

He arched a brow, and asked her rhetorically, "What's fair, sweet angel? This world is continually proving that such things as fair, at least in the way our minds view it, doesn't exist. Don't bemoan it. Only realize it and face it.

My day and existence was made brighter that you found your way here. Somewhere, the scales are trying to balance. I watched you leave for a new life, and had my own taken. But the wheel spun you back to me. It's miraculous, in it's way."

Mika  blushed lightly at his words.  She had never been told such kind words.  She was still upset that his life had to end so early, but she was glad she had found him.  She looked him in the eyes and took his hand.  "I'm so glad I felt that I needed to explore this place.  If I hadn't come in I wouldn't have found you again."  Her eyes were filled with a soft care for Hunter.  "I wouldn't want to have not found you."  She touched his face softly.  There was something about him that seemed to resonate with her.

He laid his face in her hand, kissing the palm. "I'm glad you came too, but I don't like that you've found yourself in danger because of it." He gathered her hand into his own. "Don't worry, little angel. I'll find a safe way to get you out. And I can find you in your dreams.

I don't want you to come back here again. Not while it wants you. Not if you can't hide the sweet light of you. He'll take that light. That's what he wants. Creatures of shadow always wish to dim the brightest flames."
There was an ease in the way he touched her. As if it were perfectly natural.

Somewhere in his mind and in his eyes, there was a spark of clear disbelief that he was being accepted so readily. She hadn't been the only one who'd ever felt lonely or unwanted. Deep inside, part of him was shocked that she offered touch or that she desired his own, at all. He does not surrender her hand, unless she removes it from his.

Mika smiled and said softly, "Getting myself into trouble seems to be a specialty of mine."  She didn't take her hand back.  "I trust you.  I know you'll get me out safe."  She looked in his eyes, "I won't come back again if its not safe Hunter.  I didn't know I had a light I needed to hide."  she whispered to him.

He stepped closer to her, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "It is a crime that no one has told you just how radiantly you burn, sweet angel. And trouble always finds the unsuspecting. Perhaps you must learn to seek for the clues, elsewise this trouble will always find you, little one." Her told her, his index finger running the bridge of her nose to the tip of it playfully.

He chuckled softly, kissing her forehead again, before simply brushing his palms on her arms lightly. He sobered slightly. "If you ever come back here, little angel, you must know how to shield yourself, your aura and mind. Hide the light in darkness." He told her. "I do hope you come back to me, or even come find me in your dreams. I'll be waiting there, once you leave. I hope you'll not forget me." He said, looking into her eyes.

Mika blushed slightly at the kiss on her forehead.  "I will have to learn to better see the clues in my surroundings I guess.  I do have a habit of  putting myself in harms way." she sighed lightly.  She thought about what he said about hiding her light in the darkness.  "I guess that should be possible.  Is it possible to hide your soul and mask it with your blood if that is pure darkness."

She looked back in his eyes, "I could never forget you again Hunter.  I'm mad I forgot you in the first place.  Of course I'll visit you in my dreams, until I figure out how to hide my soul.  My guess is the light angel soul that resides in my heart is probably what its drawn too."  She sighed, looking at him intently.

As if he heard her thought, he nodded his head. "Yes, it is possible to wrap the darkness that runs in your veins, that you call to your fingertips, around yourself as a cloak. It will shield you. There must be someone at the school who can teach you how to do these things?" He brushed her hair back again, this time running a lock of her hair through his fingers.

Mika smiled at Hunter although a brief look of confusion crossed her face when he answered her internal question.  "There will be someone who is well versed in dark magic.  My brother could help me if I find him again.  The teacher in charge of the Night class should be able to help me." she rambled forgetting she was talking not just to herself.  She looked back into his eyes as he ran his fingers through her hair not stopping him, everything about him was so familiar and comforting.  "So what do we do now?" she asked softly.

His fingers still tested the weight of the lock of hair he held, it's softness, the life of it. His brow furrowed into concentration on her hair. It was the fascination of death with life. One who remembers life, but has no more of it.

His fingers drop the lock of hair, but a gentle index finger moves over her cheekbone with a butterfly brush. He is intent on gathering texture, warmth, the strength of the bones beneath the skin. From cheekbone to jawline, he traces, his hands always gentle. If it shocks her at anytime to have him doing this, he simply returns to last spot or thing that didn't do so.

For Mika, this felt odd. Such a mixture of emotion stirred inside her. A shyness that he wanted to so closely study her. Not someone else, her. There's a gorgeous man with his hands on her, artistic, careful, gentle hands. There's an ache at the thought of why he might be memorizing the feel of her skin and hair. It strikes her that he might be afraid he'll never be able to again.

The action is both accidently romantic, and innocently erotic. It's a lethal combination to any woman.

Mika's breath caught in her throat as he traced her skin with his hands.  The way he was looking at her, the thoughts that he may never be able to do this again, all made her head swim.  The delicate feel of his hands were soothing, and at the same time made her heart race.  She didn't stop him, not that her body would have let her if she had tried.  She stared into his eyes as he tried to memorize her, taking the opportunity to do some studying of her own.  She wanted to know everything those eyes said to her.

His other hand joins the memorization, a flash in his eyes giving away the thought that both hands wanted the skin memory on their fingertips. Both hands move her hair back from her face to leave it free for his perusal.

His fingers trace over her brows, her temples, her jawline to her neck, the curvature of her ears, the bridge  of her nose. He seems to be avoiding her lips, though he's looking at them and attempting to school himself not to do so.

Instead he lays a kiss on her forehead, and to each of her cheeks in little whispering touches. The cheekbones receive little kisses over them.
